Miracle League - What it means to Waxahachie and Ellis County
People say pictures are worth a thousand words. Well, experiences are worth ten times that. The opportunity to participate in sports, for many, is like looking at a picture. They can only dream of experiencing it. The Miracle League of Ellis County is trying to bring that picture to life with the construction of a baseball and playground facility made to include all.
Partnering with local businesses, community leaders and philanthropic organizations such as the Lions Club, Miracle League has been able to raise a significant amount of funds to get the ball rolling. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation has come forward with matching funds of $350M when this first fundraising milestone has been completed. The total project cost is in the "ballpark" of $1.5MM with the first phase being the ball field and out building associated with it.
Mrs. Tommie Worthy was gracious enough to personally donate $450, in honor of her daughter, to provide a "beep ball" set for blind and visually impaired athletes. This equipment allows these athletes to experience the thrill of the game that otherwise might not be available.
